As a parent, what better way to balance work and childcare than working the same hours as your child is at school? Working as a teaching assistant means that you can work that exact same hours as your child is at school, removing the need for additional child care.

The Teaching Assistant Course is designed for people who wish to gain an understanding of the principles and practices of teaching / classroom assistant roles, and to participation in a wide range of classroom support a activities.

The programme consists of a number of modules, each of which relate to a particular aspect that is important and relevant to the teaching assistant role. The modules are organised into two groups:

Mandatory modules

There are four of these and you must complete all of them. They are:

Unit One - Supporting the Teacher
Unit Two - Supporting the Pupil
Unit Three - Supporting the Curriculum
Unit Four - Supporting the School Optional modules

Optional Units

There are five of these and you must complete 3 of them:

Unit Five - Supporting ICT in the Classroom
Unit Six - Supporting Pupils with Special Education Needs
Unit Seven - Supporting Literacy Development
Unit Eight - Supporting Numeracy Development
Unit Nine - Working with Others
