The AAT Accounting Qualification is the leading qualification for accounting technicians. It's the main requirement for full AAT membership and could mean a salary increase of 15%.
Starting salaries for trainees are in the range of £10,000 - £19,000. Once qualified and with experience, an accounting technician may earn from around £12,500 - £29,000.
The AAT Accounting Qualification gives you the skills to work in a wide range of accounting and finance positions. The course is extremely flexible and open to all, regardless of your age, experience or qualifications. Most people study for AAT part-time whilst working. Accounting technicians work in all areas of finance. They usually start working in a support role within a firm of accountants, or in the accounts or finance departments of organisations in industry, commerce or the public sector. However, there are opportunities for progression with experience. Those with more experience may become self-employed, providing a variety of accountancy and taxation services to a range of small to medium sized businesses.
In many larger organisations, accounting technicians work alongside members of chartered accountancy bodies. In smaller organisations, they may be the only financially trained member of staff.
Course assessments on the Diploma pathway are simulations based on the workplace, which is useful whether or not you work in finance.
Each pathway is split into 3 levels. Each level consists of several units. The levels are qualifications in their own right, and completing all three levels leads to the full AAT Accounting Qualification.
